The Indian Google Earth - ISRO Bhuvan Beta Launched

The common man can now view sharper pictures of any part of the world on their personal computer using satellite images with ISRO today unveiling 'Bhuvan', its version of Google Earth.

Minister of State in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan launched the beta version of the geoportal http://bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in at a day-long workshop of the Astronautical Society of India on "21st Century Challenges in Space -- Indian Context."

The new web-based tool allows users to have a closer look at any part of the subcontinent barring sensitive locations such as military and nuclear installations.

The degree of resolution showcased is based on points of interest and popularity, but most of the Indian terrain is covered upto at least six meters of resolution with the least spatial resolution being 55 meters, an ISRO official said.

Toyota Fortuner Launch On 24th August

After several delays and announcements, Toyota will finally launch the much awaited Fortuner SUV in the Indian market on 24th August.

Expected to be priced at Rs 20-22 Lakh bracket, the latest from Toyota stable will take the competition from Chevrolet Captiva, Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Outlander and Honda CR-V head on.

Built on the Toyota’s modular IMV platform (same as the Innova) the Fortuner will come with a potent 3.0 Litre 4 Cylinder diesel engine developing 163 bhp of maximum power @ 3400 rpm and 343 nm of torque @ barely idle 1400-3200 rpm! The engine will be mated to either a 4-speed automatic transmission for the the higher end variant or a 5-speed manual for the base variant. A premanent all wheel drive is also expected.

Toyota will launch the 2009 variant which has seen minor tweaks and updates compared to the previous model. The 2009 version features new projector headlamps at the front, new fascia, new rear tail lamps, new light sand interiors and electrically adjustable driver seat in the higher end variants.

New Maruti Zen Estilo Coming This Month!

As we told you earlier, Maruti Suzuki will launch the facelifted version of the Zen Estilo in the second last week of this month.

The car has already gone through the homologation process sucessfully and Maruti is currently conducting trainings on the new model for aftersales and service.

The facelift adresses the biggest weakness with the Zen Estilo, which essentially is a Wagon-R in different clothes, the styling. The front fascia is completely new with new sharper designed headlamps, new grille and front bumper with round fog lamps.

The biggest change is under the hood which now has Maruti’s latest K-Series engine. Its still not clear if the engine would be the detuned 1.2 Litre unit or the 1.0 Litre unit from the A-Star but we will put our money on the smaller engine.

Firefox 3.6 Alpha 1 now available for download

Mozilla released the first alpha version for Firefox 3.6,code-named Namoroka.The pre-release version which is available for public download is is intended for developers and testers,however if you want to bear few crashes(?) and non-working plug-ins, then you can try Namoroka Alpha 1 .

This release uses the Gecko 1.9.2 engine and includes several interface improvements, such as

• New graphical tab-switching
• Speed improvements to the TraceMonkey JavaScript engine
• Improved startup speed and overall responsiveness
• Better session restore features

Although tab switching is off by default,you can enable it , type about:config in adrress bar and set browser.ctrlTab.previews to true .

I have been using it for about 21 hrs, still i didn’t find any crashes, only some addons like Google gears, firedownload are not compatible with this version , but basic addons like adblock plus,WOT,flashblock are working fine .

Besides Tab feature, i didn’t find any visible differences between Firefox 3.5 and Namoroka Alpha 1.By pressing Ctrl + Tab , you get preview of the current + five most recently used tabs, plus an option to show all tabs’ thumbnails including a search bar.According to Mozillalinks this version scores 94/100 in Acid3 test.

Tata Indica Vista Ignis 1.4 Petrol With ABS & Airbags

Tata Motors will soon launch a new variant of the successful Indica Vista christened the Ignis in the Indian market.

Ignis would be the 4th Indica Vista variant in a lineup which already consists of Aqua, Terra and the Aura.

The ignis will come with a bigger 1.4 Litre Saffire engine that also does duty under the hood of the recently launched Fiat Grande Punto but in this iteration, makes 95 ps, 5 ps up on the Fiat figure. The bigger 1.4 engine is a welcome change since the current 1.2 Litre Saffire unit although fuel efficient is underpowered for a car of this size.

Apart from the bigger engine the new Indica Vista Ignis will also come with revised interiors which feature a new dash integrated audio system with bluetooth connectivity and call answer and reject buttons and USB connectivity, new steering wheel with steering mounted audio controls and electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors. Keyless entry is also standard.

Safety has also been given a throughover with Ignis now offering ABS + EBD and Dual front Air Bags as standard. This is an important move since we have always maintained from the begining about the lack of ABS and Airbags even as an option in the Indica Vista range.

The new Indica Vista Ignis will be out in the showroom and is expected to cost Rs 4.5 - 5.0 Lakhs Ex-Showroom Delhi.
