Yahoo! acquires Xoopit & Amazon Buys Zappos

Yahoo! acquires Xoopit.

Today Yahoo confirmed that it has acquired Xoopit for $20 millions, although details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Xoopit makes browser plug-ins that allow consumers to find photos and other media quickly within email(especially Gmail).

Amazon Buys Zappos

Amazon announced that it will be acquiring popular online shoe retailer Zappos.com for for 10 million Amazon shares or $807 millions. But Techcrunch reports that the price of Zappo’s stock will actually drive the deal up to around $920 millions.

Tony Hsieh, founder of Zapoos,also announced this deal in his Twitter account,also check this letter,that was sent to all Zappos employees.

We have to see how these two different cultures will cope up each other,Zappos is the most transparent companies on the Web, where as Amazon intensely private about its doings.

Millions of people across Asia witnessed the celestial spectacle. In India the eclipse began at about 5.45 a.m in surat and ended at 7.24 a.m in Arunachal Pradesh.

Although Monsoon in India dampened astro-enthusiast at some places likes Taregana,but the Holy city varanasi (kasi) got one of the best views,the solar eclipse was seen in totality for a duration of three minutes and 10 seconds.The most beautiful part of the eclipse was when sun was completely covered by the moon and the corona became visible, forming a faint crown of pearly white light.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) along with astrophysicists successfully total solar eclipse experiments by taking photos from a fighter jet and a transport aircraft. Also Scientists carried out experiments to test impact of the eclipse on animals.

Tata Nano To Worsen Traffic Problems

The Tata Nano which recently hit the roads, could worsen road traffic by adding to the growth of private vehicles in the coming days, according to a Delhi High Court Judge. The Court made the remarks while delivering its verdict in the BMW hit-and-run case involving Sanjeev Nanda in which his sentence was reduced to two years from five years for mowing down six persons ten years ago. The Court also pulled up the Centre for its “apathy” towards public safety on roads and made a slew of recommendations for road safety.

“All Indian cities are already struggling with traffic flow problem due to various types of vehicles on the road, lack of need-based road and traffic design and engineering and the unchecked growth of private vehicles and with the entry of the new cheap car Nano on the road, the situation is likely to get worsen,” Justice Kailash Gambir said.

“There are no stop signs, no speed limits and as heavy vehicles go zig-zak on the roads, it is hard to ignore the disturbing reality that many commercial and private drivers are drunk and no one checks them,” the court said.

Tata Threatens To Scrap Vista Electric UK Launch

Tata Motors has threatened to scrap its plan to launch the electric Indica Vista in the UK if it does not receive a 10 million pounds loan from Jaguar and Land Rover deal the British government soon. In April, Tata Motors registered its expression of interest to apply for the 10 million pounds loan to help launch the electric Tata Indica Vista, which was unveiled at the Geneva Motors Show this year, and build an assembly line for it in the UK.

The company is furious after being told by officials from (Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills) Lord Peter Mandelson’s business department that it needed more time to find out if the venture will be considered for the loan, taking the total wait to six months. But last Tuesday, the company was told that it will take another eight weeks for the business department to decide whether it had met the necessary criteria and can be considered for the loan. No money has been released by the government from its 2.3 billion pounds package, which it unveiled in January. The package is made up of loan guarantees and loans for car makers wanting to invest in fuel efficient technologies.

Football Manager 2009 (abbreviated to Football Manager 09 or FM09) is a football manager simulation video game. It was released on PC, Mac and Playstation Portable on 14 November 2008. Some of the new features and box art for the game were announced via a series of videos on 3 September 2008, other new features have been released via a series of podcasts and online blogs. Sports Interactive studio director Miles Jacobson stated that it was likely that the game would make its debut on DVD: it's looking likely that the game will need a DVD drive this year. Nothing confirmed as yet, but we were very close to using the full CD size last year, multiple CDs is not an option unfortunately, and I am 95% sure at this stage that we'll be too big for a CD. The main new feature to the game is the 3D match engine. This can now be watched fullscreen, with a widescreen option available. Other features include being able to play as a female or male manager, improvements to the interaction between the manager and his assistant manager, improved mid-match team talks and tactics, training players to have preferred moves and transfer rumours. The player rating will have a decimal point, eg. 6.8 or 8.3 instead of 7 or 8. There will also be press conferences, where you can build up a rapport with the journalists, and the finance and transfer systems have been completely reworked. The game is set to feature more players than ever before, with over 350,000 in the database at the time of the game's announcement. Many of the new features were tested using a Football Manager Live beta. The PC version has a skin similar to the one used in Football Manager 2008. The handheld version will include a 2D match engine for the first time, and the game will be shipped with two skins; a light and a dark alternative. There were errors on the release of the game, Steam causing many people aggrivation and pain. The effects on the franchise have been numerous, with Steam at the heart of the problem. Due to high traffic levels, many people were unable to activate the game, which had to be so via a product code which was sent via the SI Games website, which was unavailable. Compounding the problems with activation & installation, all lines of communication with technical support have been in meltdown on launch day. The official website of Sports Interactive has been crippled with disgruntled users desperate to find out how to play the game. The only printed customer services telephone number has been permanently engaged or ringing out. An official petition to boycott the Football Manager series has been created with over 12,000 signatures gathered by 3:30pm (GMT) on launch day. View of the Moon in Google Earth

Moon choice for Google Earth As mentioned by GEB on July 9th, Google is making a big announcement today in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. If you re-start Google Earth right now, you can see the Moon in 3D! Look for the little planet icon in the upper middle of Google Earth and you'll see a new option "Moon". The new moon in Google Earth changes the virtual globe into a 3D rendition of the moon. The terrain of the moon is in 3D and there are layers telling you more about the moon.

The first thing you should check out in the new Google Earth moon mode is the awesome Apollo 11 tour found in the layers under: Moon Gallery->Guided Tours->Apollo 11. This tour is narrated by Andrew Chaiken and Astronaut Buzz Aldrin and is one of the best illustrations of the Apollo 11 mission I've seen to date!

In Mumbai, the eighteen year-old orphan from the slums Jamal Malik is tortured by the policemen in a precinct accused of cheating a game show. Jamal, who has no education and works in a call center serving tea, is close to wining twenty million rupees in the show “Kaun Banega Crorepati?” (2000) (Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?) hosted by Prem Kumar, giving precise answers to the questions and raising suspicion of fraud. The police inspector shows the videotape and after each question, Jamal tells parts of his childhood with his brother Salim, his crush for Latika and their fight to survive on the streets to justify each correct answer, guided by his common sense and past experience, and prove his innocence.
