Android 2.0 vs iPhone: How Google could kill the iPhone this year

By the time the next-gen iPhone gets its likely unleashing in summer 2010, Android 2.0 will have been kicking it for six months. And not just on the Motorola Milestone. There a slew of new Google-loving blowers coming next year. Here’s how Android 2.0 could take down the iPhone before Apple can even get its newbie out of Cupertino.

Google Maps Navigation
Google Maps Navigation is the single greatest thing about Android 2.0. The Big G’s free satnav system is an absolute stunner and will only get better as it lands on big screen phones from HTC. Why pay £60 for the TomTom iPhone app when you can use Google Maps Navigation to get free live traffic info, 3D and even Street View to make getting around even easier.

Better camera support
While the iPhone 3GS remains a 3.2 megapixel disappointment, Android 2.0 offers stacks of ace camera support. There’s now zoom, white balance, a scene mode and macro focus. And with an 8MP Android offering due this year from Motorola, the iPhone is going to be well off the pace come summer.

Google Visual Search
Known also as Google Goggles, Visual Search was shown off on US TV late last year. The idea is simple: snap a pic with your Android phone and Google will search for info using it. Take a shot of your local pub and it’ll give you reviews, news, basically anything it can find. How many iPhone apps can do that?

Combined inbox
Tired of hopping around accounts to see who’s emailed you? Android 2.0 has taken a cue from BlackBerry and combined all your inboxes, so you don’t need to keep ducking and diving to stay in touch. The iPhone still only manages separate mailboxes, with its contacts pages not matching Android 2.0’s efforts.

Beefed up virtual keyboard
Just because the Motorola Milestone has a proper QWERTY doesn’t mean a decent virtual pad isn’t a necessity. The new Android 2.0 one has a better layout than the iPhone and its smart dictionary doesn’t throw up pesky autocorrect words, instead learning your word usage. Handy if you’re a fan of a bit of blue.

Better browser
The iPhone’s Safari browser has always been top dog. But Android 2.0 is primed for Flash support in 2010. It’s unlikely that Steve Jobs will end his war with Adobe, leaving Apple’s blower without the video goodies you can expect on a string of Android 2.0 phones.

The much awaited mobile version of Firefox called Fennec has been under production for over a year and half, and will finally be plunged soon. Jay Sullivan, Head of Development of Mozilla informed that Fennec is presently in the final stages of testing and hopefully will be available in just few days.

Fennec characteristics a syncing feature by which, when the browsing session is initiated on the mobile it’ll start from the same page that’s on the PC. Apart from this Fennec also has other attractive add-on feature.

Firefox has already secured the second rank in the list of popular browser, just after various versions of Internet Explorer (Microsoft), right now it is competing with Opera, Safari and Windows Mobile to capture emerging market of mobile browsers.

Porsche Panamera Launched in India in 3 Variants

Porsche India has bought its most awaited car Porsche Panamera on 1st of October on Indian roads. The Porsche Panamera is launched in Mumbai first at the Porsche Centre at a press event, by its official importer for India, Precision Cars India.

The first four door sedan by the company is available in three different variants S, 4S and the Turbo. The Panamera S and 4S are powered by a 395bhp 4.8-litre V8 engine and the Turbo variant has 493bhp 4.8-litre V8 twin turbo engine.

Porsche has maintained its trademark styling with this four-seater car. The unmistakable headlamp shape and arrangement, along with the typical 911-style curvaceous tail is all present on this car. The car though has front-engine configuration similar to their Cayenne SUV.

Porsche has plans of developing the hybrid variant of the Porsche Panamera which will be powered with a 3.6-litre V6 engine and a 34kW electric motor which powers the Cayenne hybrid. The car once produced may reach to India also.

Packed with a wide range of innovative technologies including five world firsts in motoring, the Porsche Panamera combines the looks of a coupe, the opulence of a luxury car, four-seater space and Porsche's distinctive driving dynamics.

The local provider, Precision Cars India is already booked for 13 Panamera and is expecting 50 total units to be sold over the next year. The car is one of the best performance cars with maximum fuel efficiency.

A top company official said that the Precision Cars, the official importer of Porsche in India, is planning to increase its dealer network from the current two to six during the next year.

Precision Cars' Managing Director Rod Wallace told reporters, "We are expanding our dealer network and want to have a presence in six cities in 2010." He added, "We have signed contracts with dealers in Hyderabad, Kochi and Chennai. These cities would have their local Porsche centres in this calendar year".

The Porsche Panamera S will be available in India with a price tag of Rs. 14,436,000 (ex-showroom, India except Delhi, includes VAT and import duties) and Porsche Panamera 4S and Porsche Panamera Turbo for Rs. 14,983,000 (ex-showroom, India except Delhi, includes VAT and import duties) and Rs. 20,558,000 (ex-showroom, India except Delhi, includes VAT and import duties) respectively.

Fujifilm Launches 3D Camera

Fujifilm

has announced the launch of its new imaging technology, the 'FinePix REAL 3D System'. The company claims it to be the world's first 3D (three dimensional) digital imaging system that offers users to view 3D images with naked eye without the need for wearing special 3D glasses.

The 3D system consists of FinePix REAL 3D W1, the 3D camera; FinePix REAL 3D V1, an 8 inch viewer on which spectacular 3D images can be displayed; and 3D Print, Fujifilm's high precision production technology that enables users to print 3D images.

How it Works: Fujifilm Explains

To achieve a 3D image, it is necessary to flawlessly layer together 2 images, so 2 Fujinon lenses, known for their high resolution & exquisite rendering, are installed. A 3x optical zoom, deemed difficult to achieve in 3D photography because of the precision required to align 2 lenses, has also been achieved. Moreover, the engine of the camera - RP (Real Photo) Processor 3D, another photo technology developed by Fujifilm over the years - synchronizes data passed to it by the two lenses and two CCD sensors, to determine shooting conditions such as focus, brightness and tonality to instantaneously blend this information into a single symmetrical image. The 2.8-inch 3D/2D LCD monitor features Fujifilm's own LCD panel.

In the 'Individual Shutter 3D Shooting' mode, the camera takes two shots, one after the other, and saves a single 3D image in the camera manually. The 3D image generated can be edited and this is particularly useful for landscape photography where a 3D image is difficult to achieve, or conversely, macro shots, where the 3D effect can be too strong.

In the 'Interval 3D Shooting' mode, it is possible to take two shots from different viewpoints continuously while the photographer is moving, for example by train, airplane, or car, etc., to achieve 3D images of long-distance views. By using the 'Parallax Control (3D Tuning Function)', the 3D images can be manually adjusted for a clear and sharper 3D view.
