Hyundai is planning to move more than a third of its i20 car production to Europe by the middle of 2010.
Hyundai India, Managing Director, H.S. Lheem told reporters that the automaker would shift the production of about 70,000 cars to Europe to get the newly announced tax benefits. Hyundai currently has an installed capacity of making 200,000 i20 cars in India.
Lheem didnt mention the location in Europe where the car will be built.
Hyundai currently has facilities in Czech Republic that produces the i30 hatchback and the station wagon models for the European market. The company also has a production facility in Turkey.
Lheem said that Hyundai’s car sales in India are expected to increase to 580,000 units this compared to 490,000 units in the previous year.
