Flying Car by 2011

Flying Car Now a Reality by 2011!

For those of us who have always dreamed of a flying car, there's reason to rejoice. An American company called Terrafugia near Boston has developed a concept car called "The Transition". It can seat up to two people and fly in the air at up to 115 miles per hour and cruise for up to 450 miles. This dual concept vehicle is equipped with a front wheel drive for the roads and a foldable wing and it can be parked in any single car garage. It uses a propeller provided at the rear for traversing through the air. Transition uses unleaded petrol as fuel for both on ground as well as in flight modes.

Flying Car by 2011Though this car is capable of taking off from any road, the laws in the United States allow it to take off from any general aviation airport. Despite the fact that only one prototype has been developed so far, it is expected to be a reality by around 2011. Set up in 2006, the Company Terrafugia is run by engineers and MBA from of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). The vehicle is expected to cost around $200,000, but it seems that folks are undeterred by the high cost, as the company has already received orders for 60 vehicles so far.

For you are interested in beating that congested city traffic, this flying car offers a convenient way of taking to the air and avoiding any hassles. If you wish to come down to earth, then just touch down and the flying car will fold its wings in 30 seconds. With the completion of the first step of the four stage production process, the company will now move to the next stage of developing the Beta prototype. Nearly 28 different tests have been carried out on the flying car. Flying this car will need a sport pilot certificate since it has been categorized as a light sport aircraft.
